Tuna Fishing Jigs
Jigs are one of the most productive lures to catch all varieties of tuna as well as any other sport fish in the area where you are fishing. At Tuna Fishing Lures we have selected the very best tuna jigs from Point Wilson Dart company, Deep Stinger and Triton Tuna Lures.
Jigging for albacore tuna in Mexico, California, Oregon or Washington has become a favorite fishery among tuna anglers from across the country. During summer and fall months albacore tuna migrate with warm waters to within striking range of sport boats and charter boats along the West Coast. While some anglers love using live bait for albacore tuna, live bait is not always available or practical.
Big albacore tuna sit below the major school of tuna, making Pt. Wilson Dart jigs and Deep Stinger jigs the perfect lure choice. When a school of albacore tuna is near the boat lower an Anchovy, glow/chrome Pt. Wilson Dart jig to 100 feet and then jig it rapidly back to the surface. This tuna jigging method drives albacore tuna crazy.
Yellowfin tuna also love hitting jigs from our Tuna Tackle store. The same method mentioned above works for yellowfin tuna. Casting your jig as far away from the boat, toward "breezers" will also draw quick strikes from yellowfin and albacore tuna. After casting the jig as far as possible toward the tuna, let the jig drop in the water column for approximately 15 seconds and then begin a fast retrieve, toward the boat. You can also vary your retrieve by stopping every few seconds to allow the jig to sink.
When tuna hit your jig it's like hooking the bumper of a car traveling in the opposite direction. The tuna's hard hit on the jig is why tuna anglers love using jigs. And with jigs you don't have to worry about your bait dying or the time it takes to get a fresh bait.

Squid Lures for Tuna
We also like using artificial squids, especially for trolling. Our FAT Squid with its internal light stick works especially well for nighttime tuna fishing. Z2 Super Squid & FAT Squid tuna lures can also be used along side anglers using fresh bait or jigs. These tuna lures will attract the largest tuna in the school. When fishing these tuna squid lures from a drifting boat, use an inline torpedo lead weight two to three feet above the squid, cast it away from the boat and let it sink for three minutes then retrieve toward the boat. Big tuna will often hit the squid lure on the drop so be ready to strike if the line suddenly goes limp. Tuna will also viciously hit the squid as it is retrieved toward the surface.
